BMW 850i Cabrio

Blue suits this convertible

The blue BMW 850i Cabrio has a more relaxed presence than a black sports car, but it still feels substantial when you settle in. The V8 gives it effortless pace on Sheikh Zayed Road, while the automatic gearbox makes Downtown traffic less of a chore. It is a grand tourer rather than a car that asks you to chase every corner: quiet enough to enjoy a conversation, with plenty in reserve when the road opens up.

A good fit for the long way round

This is a strong choice for a couple planning an Abu Dhabi drive, or a visitor who wants a memorable car for Jumeirah Beach Road and an evening at a hotel. The convertible shape looks particularly good at a valet entrance, roof up or down, and the blue paint gives photos some colour without looking theatrical.

It is less suited to a group travelling with bulky luggage. There are rear seats, but the layout makes most sense when the front occupants are the priority. Take speed bumps and steep parking entrances with the same care you would in any low sports car.

What is under the bonnet

The 850i pairs a 4.4L twin-turbo V8 with an automatic transmission and produces 523 hp. It runs on petrol, with four seats and two doors. That combination explains much of its appeal: proper V8 performance in a cabin that still feels appropriate for a longer UAE journey, rather than a brief drive around the block.
