BMW 740i

Quiet confidence in traffic

The BMW 740i is a large luxury saloon that feels most at home making a busy day feel less busy. Its petrol engine has ample power for joining Sheikh Zayed Road, while the automatic transmission suits the stop-start pace around Downtown. This is a car to settle into, not one that asks you to make an event of every journey.

Its size brings welcome space inside, though it is worth taking a little more care in tight Marina parking and over hotel speed bumps. At a valet entrance, it has presence without needing to shout about it.

Room for the working day

The 740i makes particular sense for business visits, airport runs and longer stays when you expect to spend real time in the car. It also fits a wedding where a discreet, smart arrival matters more than a dramatic one. For a change of pace, a drive to Abu Dhabi and along the Corniche gives this saloon the sort of open-road journey it suits well.

It has 5 seats and 4 doors, with a 3.0L turbo inline-six producing 375 hp. The transmission is automatic and it runs on petrol. Those are useful figures, but the appeal is how comfortably the whole car fits into a full day’s plans.
